A pregnant mother left in a coma after she was seriously hurt in a
car accident has delivered a healthy baby boy in hospital successfully.
The woman named Veronika Tlusta, 33, was in her fifth month of
pregnancy when she had a car accident in October 2015. She suffered
serious injuries to her brain and neck forcing her into a coma.
After three months at a university hospital in the south-eastern
Czech Republic's city of Brno, her son Daniel was born by caesarean
section.
Since the birth, the mother's condition has been slowly improving
with her now awake and responding every day to the environment and
people around her.
Speaking after the successful delivery, the head doctor of the maternal hospital, Dr Dagmar Seidlova, said: "In
the moment when we saw that Veronika's physical condition was not good
enough to carry on in pregnancy, we decided to end the pregnancy."
The healthy baby was delivered through caesarean operation
Veronika’s mother, Jaroslava, told Czech national TV Nova: "He is beautiful and very similar to his mum."
Veronika’s condition has been improving and she is now giving responses to various signals and is opening her eyes.
Veronika will be transported from Brno to a special clinic in
Prague to assess her recovery chances and give her the best possible
treatment.
